Natland & Oxenholme Flower Show

Until a few years ago, the Natland & Oxenholme Flower Show was an important part of the year in the village. Encouraged by the very successful Open Gardens Day of 2006, the Village Hall Committee has decided to revive the event this year. In addition to flowers, there are categories for cakes and photographs, and much more for adults and children.

Saturday 21st July 2007, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Natland Village Hall

Entrance fee 50p. Accompanied Children free.

All proceeds to Village Hall funds.

Entry Forms can be downloaded by clicking here and are also available from either Natland Post Office & General Store or from Gerald Cummins at 7 Abbey Gardens; 015395 60106 or .

If you are submitting entries for the photo competition and have an electronic copy, if you wish, you can it to natland.info and we will publish it on the web site.  However you will still need to submit a copy on photographic paper to the Flower Show as per the entry form.

Entries are free. Have a look and think which classes appeal to you - then please 'have a go' and contribute to making this event a successful community project.

Section 1 - Flower, Fruit and Vegetables

Class Description

 1 Vase of Sweet Peas - 6 stems - mixed varieties

 2 Bowl of mixed Sweet Peas

 3 Vase of 3 stems of large flowering roses - 1 or more varieties

 4 Vase of 2 stems of clustered flowering Roses - 1 or more varieties

 5 Rose - 3 stems of 1 variety in 3 separate vases - bud, perfect and full

 6 One Rose, any variety for fragrance only (to be judged by the public)

 7 Gladiolus - 1 spike

 8 Vase of mixed annuals - 6 stems

 9 Vase of French Marigolds - 4 stems

10 Vase of Nasturtiums - 5 stems

11 Vase of mixed Herbaceous Perennials - 6 stems

12 Specimen flower stem - single or multi-headed

13 Any variety of flowering pot plant - in a pot up to 5in (13cm)

14 Any variety of flowering pot plant - in a pot above 5in (13cm)

15 Any variety of foliage pot plant

16 Vase of 3 Hosta leaves

17 Specimen Cactus or Succulent - in a pot

18 Vase of 3 stems of 1 or more varieties of flowering shrubs

19 Plate of soft fruit

20 Collection of salad vegetables - maximum area 2x2ft (60x60cm)

21 Collection of 3 different vegetables displayed 12x9in (30x23cm)

Section 2 - Domestic

Class Description

22 Gingerbread - four squares

23 Tray bake - four squares

24 Decorated carrot cake

25 Fruit loaf for buttering (no yeast)

26 Savoury quiche

27 Ginger biscuits - five

28 Marmalade

29 Raspberry jam

30 My favourite jam

31 Men only - muffins - four

32 Children - four small-decorated cakes

33 Children - three fruit scones

Section 3 - Floral Art

An arrangement is composed of natural plant material. It can include fresh, dried, garden or wild plant material. An exhibit can include non-plant material.

Class Description

34 "Summer Splendour" - arrangement of maximum width 22in (56cm)

35 "Pretty Petite"- arrangement not to exceed 9x9x9in (23x23x23cm)

36 "Shades of Green" foliage/grasses of maximum width 18in (46cm)

37 An exhibit in a kitchen utensil of maximum width 15in (38cm)

Section 4 - Photography

Maximum size 10x8 in (25x20cm).

Section 5 - Children

Class Description

- A miniature garden arranged in a container (seed tray)

42 Open to all School Year Two and under

43 Open to all School Year Three and Four

44 Open to all School Year Five and Six

- 'Animal' made from fruit and/or vegetables

45 Open to all School Year Four and under

46 Open to all School Year Five and Six

- A4-Size general art picture (hand drawn)

47 Open to all School Year Four and under

Notes for Exhibitors

i.  All flowers must be grown by the exhibitor, excluding Floral Art classes.

ii.  An exhibitor may only submit one entry in any one class.

iii. There is no entry fee for any class, but prize certificates will be available. Rosettes will be provided in the children's classes for prizewinners.

iv.  Vases will be provided.

v.   The Hall will be available for staging exhibits from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and in addition, on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

vi.  Anyone living in or associated with Natland and Oxenholme is invited to join in.
